2014 Trip to USA

We visit US in mid 2014. As is usual I go there alone first on 8th August and hubby dear joins me in New York on 29th .  He is in US just for two weeks.
We decide to check out places which we have not seen earlier.

High Line Park

Beautiful park created out of old abandoned Railway Track and extended so much from what I saw last time.  You get a beautiful overview of Manhattan while walking on the High line.

View of Hudson River from the  Park.

Small flowering plants are there,  this park is nothing but a wide walk way which is converted into a kind of park.  There are so many entry points where you can climb on to the High Line Park.

We get down at a place from where we go to the Chelsea Market .  It has  Old World Charm.  Some old Factory is   converted  into a market preserving many of the walls and  interiors.  Looks so nice.

A spice shop inside the Chelsea Market.

On Sunday 31st October, Vinu takes us to Philadelphia.

Vinu takes a Rental Car and we drive to Philadelphia.   I have heard  about the Liberty Bell there and   have been wanting to visit the place.

We straight drive to the Downtown where  the Bell is located.

This place reeks of History where lots happened during the American Independence  (18th Century)
They have created the whole area into a kind of park and it is called Independence National Historic Park.
They have excavated the ruins of the house of the first two presidents of USA, Washington, and Adams.

The excavated site of the residents of the first two Presidents.

The Bell which is called Liberty Bell is kept in Liberty Centre.  This is not a very Huge Bell ,  it has a crack also in the side.

This Bell was once taken around all the States of USA and even though the Bell is there since Independence, it became the symbol of Liberty during the Civil War in USA and hence it is known as the Liberty Bell.
I get a very nice feeling when I stand near the Bell. (wish there is such a National park in New Delhi where we can see the Ashoka Chakra on lions on four sides kept nicely so that the we can feel  being a proud Indian )
We go to the Liberty Hall where the Famous Declaration of Independence was signed and the Constitution was drafted and signed by greats like Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin etc.  It is a guided tour. They have preserved the same setting in the room where it was signed and the feeling of being a part of what happened so long ago is there for the visitor.

There is a big park nearby.  It is become a norm for me to pack lunch (food) whenever we go out as I am very finicky about food and my children have understood that  and allow me  to cook and pack.
We sit and eat in  a relaxed way in the shades of trees.

                                                                   The Park

Post Lunch we go to Philosophy Hall where there is an exhibition on Thomas Jefferson. This seems to be  a Hall where they keep changing the exhibition theme and when we went it was about this great president of USA who was the person who drafted their Constitution.  We see many original letters, etc written by him and many details about him.
We have coffee  and proceed to Ben Franklin Museum.

In Front of Benjamin Franklin's Residence/Museum

hands on printing machine with our names!

It is too good.  In this museum you can do everything hands on and you get to know so much about Benjamin Franklin who lived in this City. He has invented so many things one of them being bifocal lens. He discovered many things in electricity one of them being the lightning rod. He owned the post office and printed his own stamps and ran the post office very efficiently.  He was instrumental in starting the first hospital in the country the Pennsylvania Hospital.
I was very impressed and have decided to read his biography.
