Today is  22nd July Tuesday.
We leave early after Breakfast to  go to lake Nakuru National Park.  From Yesterday we have crossed many Lakes like , Lake Elementeita, Lake Bogoria.

This big sacks are stacked on the roadside.  The guide told us that these are kind of salt taken out of the Lakes and sold.  These are good for the Cattle and  as these areas have lot of Cattle Owners (their wealth is measured by the number of Cattle they own)

We could see some birds in the lake on the way  when we are moving .

In these areas we see  Donkey driven carts.  Since we have never seen it before it looks very funny for us.

Yes Definitely the right of way is for the Wild Animals in this Nakuru National Park

Many of these lakes including Lake Nakuru are Alkaline  Lakes which attract large number of Flamingos.  I have heard so much about the  millions of Flamingos sighted at this Lake,  I am very excited and eager to go there.

This  is an hour's drive from 'Naivasha' where we stayed.  This National Park is also famous for  Rhinos, one of the Big Five.

Lots of Wild Buffaloes are there.  They look especially the calf looks so much like our domesticated buffaloes

This is the Cattle Egret which is always seen with herbivorous animals

We get into the park and see many Giraffes this time not the Masai Giraffes but Rothschild Giraffes which are  better looking. They are endangered species.
They all are looking at a particular direction.   Their gaze is  turned exactly to a particular place.  To our amazement , Mr. John points out to a Lion sitting there  camouflaged superbly.  If he had not shown we would not have been able to locate it.
To our surprise the Lion gets up and walks away may be  could not bear the staring of all Giraffes at it.  We keep saying oh Giraffes drove away the Lion.

All of them are looking at a particular place.

If keenly looked the Lion can be spotted.  We could see it better with the help of Binoculars.

This place has taller trees and I feel relieved to see the Giraffe eating keeping its Neck High.  which I felt is the natural thing for it to do.

We see a Rhino which is one of the Big Five .  It is sitting and after some time it gets up and gives a superb pose.

                                                           Rhinoceros

                                                    The Rhino has stood up.

We go to the lake .  As water has risen we can not go very far near  the Lake.  It has rained  and the water has diluted and Flamingos have not much algae to eat  for which they come to this alkaline lakes. ( That is what we were told about the absence of Flamingos)
We see very few of them very far.
I am very very disappointed as I was so eager to see the lovely red hued Flamingos.

Spoon Bill(y)

                                                            Group of Pelicans

We see lot of Pelicans sitting in groups.  We see African Spoon Bill from close quarters and it is funny the way it eats its food.
We  had got down in the  banks of the lake, whose banks keep shrinking or expanding depending on the water level.  Now we  get on to the vehicle and  start.  There are many  Wild Buffaloes and our guide asks us to get on to the vehicle fast. Wild Buffaloes are considered as very dangerous as they are very unpredictable.
We proceed further and on our way see 'Eland' a kind of antelope the biggest in that species which looks some what like a Cow.

                                                                       Eland

This Eland looks so much like a Cow.

                                                                A tree Climbing Baboon.

It is a  very long drive for us.  We go up  a mountainous route seeing a lot of Tea/Coffee Plantations .
We go and see a water fall called Thompson Water fall and take some pictures.  My mind is thinking about Victoria Water falls  which we have no chance to see and so in comparison I feel this is not impressive.

Thompson's Waterfall.

                                                           A Wild Flower

We were taken to a place which is the exact Equator Line.  The Vehicle is stopped and there are many people who are doing some kind of experiment to show us that this is the exact place  where the equator (imaginary line) passes.

One of them who came to us said ,  that in Northern Hemisphere when water falls down it falls in a clockwise direction and in the Southern Hemisphere it  will fall in anti clockwise direction. He said  it is the natural way of water falling down.
To prove his point,  he showed us a  simple experiment. He had   two containers and poured  water from one container through a hole put in a metal sheet covering the second container ,into the second  container..  Then  he put a match stick in the second container  and  we  could see the match stick moving in the clockwise direction.  Now the whole apparatus? is moved to the other side of the line which is Southern Hemisphere and the match stick moved in the water in  anticlockwise direction.

Now he kept the containers on the equator line and when the water is poured , hey and presto the match stick did  not move in any direction and it simply stayed  in one place  moving a little bit as the water  on equator comes down straight.
I was  quite impressed. ( As usual. later on ,  my second son rubbishes what ever I saw and said there is no phenomenon like that.  I really don't know whether what I saw was  something silly but I did feel happy at that point.)

We proceed further and after journey through the usual muddy road which gives us a good African/Kenyan Massage, we reach our next destination Sweet Water Lodges  and stay in Tented Camp with all facilities.  Beautiful place and lovely food.

Our staying Tent.

The many tents.

We saw two Rhinos from the Dining Hall while taking Lunch.

This place is  a game /National Park and after lunch  we immediately proceed for a game drive.
